IEEE e-Science 2014 Registration Tutorial

Dear participant,

This document aims to help you in the process of registration for IEEE e-Science 2014 . The payment is processed by ECOS, a payment system managed by SBC (Brazilian Computer Society). ECOS was designed to make the payment process simple, but some instructions may be useful to minimize the most common problems reported by some overseas participants.

This document is divided into three sections:

Registration

To access ECOS, open a web browser clicking here.
The Web page at the right will open.

If you are not a previously registered user, choose the option “New Account” in order to create a new ECOS user.

You will be invited to fill the registration form.

The form is used by ECOS for registration in any event supported by SBC (including IEEE e-Science 2014). The information you enter will be used for registration purposes only. Some of this information will be used to generate identification material at the conference (e.g., badges). You do not need to fill all fields, only the following are compulsory: Name, Birth Date, Identification Document, E-mail and Password. You may also want to enter the name of your Institution, to appear on the badges.

After filling the form, click on the "Submit" button to proceed to the next step. If your registration was successfully finished, the page on the right will appear:

Payment

To pay, log into the ECOS system, and search for the IEEE e-Science Conference navigating through the page list. This list contains the set of events supported by SBC that are open for registration. This list is sorted according to event begin date – please keep in mind that SBC hosts over 40 events a year, so that this list is continuously updated.

Once you select the e-Science conference, you will be directed to registration information and can choose your registration category. Notice the prices are shown in Real (R$), the Brazilian currency. The value corresponds to the event fees, using the Real – US dollar exchange rate.

After selecting your category, the event fee will be automatically computed. Now, select the credit card company of your choice and save your registration.

After saving your registration, proceed to payment by clicking on the "Pay" button. You will be redirected to the CIELO external payment service (a trusted certified payment service adopted in Brazil), which will provide the connection to your credit card company to process the operation.
CIELO is the main certified service in Brazil, and is used in most ecommerce transactions. You may need to accept its certificate to continue payment.

This is the final CIELO screen, Please enter your credit card information. You have finished your registration.

Known Problems (Blank Payment Page)

Some participants have reported this error. If your first payment attempt is unsuccessful, the next attempts will open a blank inactive page. This occurs because ECOS redirects the payment process to the CIELO service creating a session number that cannot be reused.
If the first attempt was aborted, the system needs to generate another session number. To do this, edit your registration again.

The registration update cancels the previous payment data and generates another payment process.

Now, the last payment request is cancelled. The system will show another payment information. Click on button "Pay". You will be redirected to the CIELO credit card company site.
The access to credit card companies is mediated by CIELO, a secure payment service adopted in Brazil by banks and e-commerce. If your computer does not have a CIELO certificate, you may need to authorize the connection, since it may be signalled as noncertified.
